In its galleries is told the story of the origin of the Isthmus of Panama more than 3 million years ago and how the emergence united continents and divided the seas, changing life of the Earth and its huge impact on biodiversity. One of the most interesting sites on this tour are the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal where you might be able to witness the raising or lowering of a ship as it passes through this impressive engineering feat completed in 1914. The Miraflores Visitors Center also contains a Canal Museum which holds information on its history from the first construction efforts by the French to its newexpansion.
